We've put together a list of questions customers frequently ask us.
If you don’t find the answer to your question, feel free to call or text us at the number above, or send us an email.
For those under age 18, see our age requirements for booking, drivers & riders.
Snowmobiles: Yes & No
The only way to ride snowmobiles inside Yellowstone is with a licensed vendor or by being selected in the annual drawing. If you're going with a licensed vendor, you'll be using their sleds. If you won the annual drawing for a special license, only certain models of sleds are allowed for that, and we do rent those.
UTVs/ATVs: No. Only cars are allowed in Yellowstone during the summer.
However.... there are 400 miles of trails in the National Forests surrounding West Yellowstone and Island Park, ID where you can ride our sleds and UTVs. And the scenery is just as beautiful outside the park!! You'll love it!
Equipment is rented beginning at 8:00 AM on the first day of your rental. They must be returned by 5:00 PM on the last day of your rental. If you rent multiple days, you may keep them where you’re staying.
With full day rentals, you don't need to arrive exactly at 8:00 AM. You are free to arrive anytime you like.
If the rental is not returned by 5:00 PM on the last day of your reservation there will be a minimum charge of $200.00 to your account. If the rental is not returned by 6:00 PM on the last day of your reservation we will call the West Yellowstone Police Department and request Search and Rescue to look for you.
If we have to send out technicians to retrieve the vehicle due to damage caused by you or getting into a situation where you cannot get out of, there will be a minimum charge of $200.00 added to your account.
For booking, we require at 50% deposit to hold your reservation.
For cancellations, we require at least 14 days notice to receive a full refund, minus a small three percent cancellation fee. If you cancel with less than 14 days notice, your deposit will be forfeited. If you cancel the day of your reservation, fail to cancel or do not show up on the first day of your reservation, we will charge your credit card the full price of your reservation.
Maybe. Snowmobile season is extremely busy for us, but if we're able to accommodate the change, we'll do what we can. Please note, a $25 change fee may apply.
Yes. There are over 400 miles of groomed trails to ride the rentals on, including trailheads that are 150 feet from our shop. We will provide you with a map of the trails. The trails are marked at each intersection and easy to follow.

No. If you damage a vehicle while it is rented to you, you do not get the damaged parts that are taken off. These are property of Highmark Rentals.
You are responsible for all damage to the rental while it is in your possession. This includes any damage that occurs at the hotel. Be advised we have many issues with birds destroying the seats at many of the motels in town. You are responsible. To help deter damage due to wildlife, be sure to take everything out of the seat compartments. But this is not a guarantee. You are also welcome to leave rentals with us overnight.
Our vehicles are full when you check them out. Instead of charging you a flat rate regardless of the amount of fuel you use, we have you fill up the tank so you only pay for the fuel you use. Please utilize only 91 Octane/Premium fuel when filling up the snowmobiles or ATVs / UTVs. If they are not full when returned, we will charge you for the fuel.
Yes. We carry everything you’ll need for a day on the trails, including heated helmets! Check out our Winter Gear Rentals page.
We provide the oil for all of our snowmobiles. We ask that if you rent multiple days, bring the snowmobile back every two days and we will fill the oil for you.
We gladly rent to our customers staying in Island Park, Idaho, however, we do not offer delivery to there. If you're staying in Island Park, you can either ride the trails back to where you're staying or trailer your rentals if you have access to one.
Please utilize mtavalanche.com to get the current snowmobile conditions. This will provide snow depths as well as avalanche conditions.
Since the trails around West Yellowstone are easy to self-navigate, we do not offer any guided trips. However, if you would like to book a guide, we do have one that we recommend and can furnish his information upon request.
We do not offer snowmobile tours into Yellowstone National Park. ATVs / UTVs are not allowed in the park at any time.

Yes, we have a few places we highly recommend. You can see them on our Lodging Recommendations page.
At Highmark, we believe if a person is old enough to serve their country, they’re old enough to book a rental. With that said, you must be 18 years old and have a credit card in order to book a rental.
If a parent or grandparent wants to allow their child/grandchild to drive a rental, we’re all for it. We believe the parent knows the child better than we do, and if you feel comfortable letting them drive a snowmobile or ATV / UTV, we have no issues. The machine is checked out to the parent, and they’re free to allow whoever they want to allow to drive it. Ultimately, the parent will be held responsible for the operators and any damage to the machine no matter who drives it.
There is no age limit on who can be a rider or passenger regarding the snowmobiles and ATVs / UTVs. For the 6 passenger UTVs, we can even strap in a child safety seat, if you have one, and children as little as infants can go for a ride.
